Nikki Bella should be considered one of the best female heels in WWE history. It has been a natural role for her because her on-screen persona is unlikable. That’s not a bad thing in this industry and she’s made and continues to make a lot of money that way.
Since her return at “Summerslam,” WWE has been booking her as a face. It’s a normal thing for a WWE Superstar to return from a huge injury and get cheered, but Nikki seems to be the exception that rule and WWE refuses to acknowledge it.
Last night on SmackDown, Carmella called out Nikki Bella getting ahead in WWE based on her relationship with John Cena, her looks, and pretty much everything else negative people have been saying about her on the internet for years. It’s wasn’t anything new.
The problem is that it exposed the natural entitlement the Nikki Bella character has on WWE programming, which simply isn’t suited to fit the face role.
Nikki said she’s not afraid of a “Boss” or a “Queen” in an obvious reference to Charlotte and Sasha Banks, but do you think either of those women would have taken that verbal abuse from Carmella, drop their catchphrase, and get owned like that?
That would never happen because those are stronger characters. That was a spot where she needed to fight, but the logic of “I’m a face now” made her to do absolutely nothing.
It’s not that Nikki Bella isn’t a strong character, but she’s just not fit to be a face in WWE.
Do you think Nikki Bella is better as a face or as a heel?
