It’s been rumored for weeks and assumed for a few days now, but WWE made it official earlier in the day that “Hell in a Cell” is going to be a historic PPV next weekend. For the first time in WWE history, a women’s match will be the main event of a WWE PPV.

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte for the Raw Women’s Championship will also be the first women’s “Hell in a Cell” match, so WWE is really unloading the achievements for this match before it even takes place. The pressure on those two women is monumental.

WWE is giving Sasha and Charlotte the chance to main event, do something that has never been done before, and prove once and for all that women’s wrestling is a draw.

According to a report from Four3Four.com, the reason WWE is giving The Boss vs. The Queen the main event spotlight at “Hell in a Cell” is literally a trial by fire situation. If their match is successful, it will open a lot of doors for the women’s division in WWE.

The powers that be are going to study the viewership and numbers very closely, so their success will allow them to main event Raw or SmackDown on a much more often and give them the chance to main event a much bigger WWE PPV someday.
