Major Update Regarding Shane McMahon’s Return to SmackDown Live

Shane McMahon hasn’t wrestled since WrestleMania 32. In fact, he hasn’t been featured on SmackDown Live much since debuting Paige as the brand’s General Manager. Before the grandest stage of them all, there was a lot of speculation about Shane’s health so his hiatus is understandable to focus on things outside of WWE like himself and his family.

During the opening segment for SmackDown 1000, TruthTV saw Shane McMahon make his return to WWE television alongside Stephanie and Vince McMahon for some fun on the historic night. According to a report from PWInsider, Shane’s return to SmackDown will serve as his official return and he’s expected to appear on the show going forward.

It’s been over six months since WrestleMania 34. It’s extremely likely that Shane O’Mac is completely healthy and ready to get back into the ring. It’s unclear if WWE has a new rivalry planned for him heading into Survivor Series. However, Paige has done a great job as the authority figure on SmackDown so Shane is being brought back for a reason.

There’s so much happening on the blue brand that WWE officials might want to wait for the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 35 to book Shane into a rivalry. On paper, there are only a couple of heels for him to work with right now. Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe are exciting choices and both are currently without rivalries on SmackDown Live.

Shane McMahon’s feuds tend to be built over a longer period of time. If WWE wants to set something up for Survivor Series, the angle should happen fairly quickly. If the plan is Royal Rumble and beyond, it’s going to be a slow burn for Shane O’Mac and whoever the powers that be want him to feud with next. Unfortunately, only time will tell.
