Dancing and goofy gimmicks have a limited shelf life. WWE officials believe them to be fun and many fans likely feel the same, but they tend to handcuff a performer. The only way to transition out of the character is a heel turn, but those rarely work because the shift is too dramatic. As a result, the Adam Roses and Brodus Clays tend to fail and No Way Jose is the latest example of this problem.

Two years ago, WWE officials were high on No Way Jose. He didn’t achieve greatness in NXT, but Jose did anything that was asked of him. He was rewarded with a main roster debut on Raw after WrestleMania 34. Unfortunately, No Way Jose’s run isn’t gaining him much momentum and the WWE Universe isn’t responding to another dancing gimmick.
According to a report from Wrestling Observer Radio, No Way Jose was beaten by Mike Kanellis during a dark match before Raw. For Dave Meltzer, this was the ultimate sign that WWE officials have given up on Jose. No disrespect to Kanellis, but neither man is making an impact and it’s not a good sign that Jose can’t win a dark match before Raw.
A performer relying too heavily on his entrance music can create major problems:
The ship might be sailing away on the persona, but the man behind the character is a good worker. He’s capable of a lot more with a different gimmick. For him to succeed, Jose needs to do a total overhaul of his on-screen persona. An NXT return is not a bad idea. However, WWE officials are more likely to move him to SmackDown next year.
