Last night on Monday Night Raw, Elias and Kevin Owens held a concert promo segment to promote their upcoming match with Bobby Lashley and John Cena at WWE’s Super Show-Down in Australia on Saturday. A simple segment turned chaotic when the Seattle crowd revolted against Elias and Owens after a snide comment about the city losing the Supersonics after the NBA moved their team to Oklahoma City to become the Thunder.
According to a report from Rajah, the segment is gaining a lot of mainstream attention today on social media and other news platforms. ESPN, Forbes, and Newsweek have all run stories showcasing the insane reaction to Elias and Owens’ segment on Raw. That’s good buzz to have heading into WWE’s Super Show-Down this weekend in Australia.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE officials made the decision to end Owens and Elias’ segment by bringing out Lio Rush. Some fans have expressed frustration that WWE officials didn’t allow the crowd to keep booing. However, there was a commercial break was coming up and they did not want to end the segment with the crowd booing.
Some fans believe letting the segment go to commercial and returning to the crowd still booing to that level would have only added to the greatness of the promo. Even with Lio Rush coming out to end the segment, Elias and Kevin Owens are receiving a lot of praise for their work to keep the promo going and to keep the crowd’s jeers as loud as possible.
It’s extremely likely Owens and Elias will lose to Bobby Lashley and John Cena at WWE Super Show-Down, but their duo is gaining some major steam. After last night’s reaction on Raw, it’s not out of the question for their partnership to continue after this weekend.
