Last spring,
Hideo Itami went down with a significant shoulder surgery. It was originally believed that he would be back in NXT by the end of the year, but he’s still not back as of now, and the latest update doesn’t have him returning to the ring anytime soon.
According to several souces, including the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Hideo’s suffered some setbacks with his shoulder, and his return has been postponed to an undisclosed date.
Back in May, Hideo was set for a Triple Threat match at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable against Finn Balor and Tyler Breeze. There has been a lot of speculation that Itami was originally meant to win that match and go on to face Kevin Owens for the NXT Championship.
Recently, Itami has taken to social media to provide updates on his injury status, and he has posted the following about the latest update:

There is no word on the next steps of his recovery, so he could be back as early as next week, or postponed until this summer and possibly the end of 2016.
It’s a shame because he never truly got started with good momentum in NXT and the injury has taken another great star away from NXT.
