The more things change. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble and that means things are going to be shaking up in a big way in the coming weeks. Some of the stories and feuds currently taking place are going to get the big time treatment at the show and that can make for some interesting moments. However, one of the bigger matches planned does not seem to be taking place.

While there are several top level stars in WWE at the moment, everyone else is chasing Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who has become the biggest deal in the company in recent months. Almost no one has been able to hold a candle to him and it is going to take an extra special effort to get the title off of him. There are not many people who could be a threat to him, and now we know who won’t be doing it next.

According to Wrestlingnews.co, Reigns will likely be facing Kevin Owens for the Universal Title again. This comes after the Wrestling Observer Newsletter had reported that Reigns would be defending against Daniel Bryan at the show. Bryan had spoken on Talking Smack about wanting to face Reigns for the Universal Title, but now the plans seem to have been changed. There is no word on when Bryan will face Reigns.

Opinion: This isn’t quite the biggest surprise and that is a good thing. At the end of the day, Owens vs. Reigns has been great so far and there is no need to run through the biggest match that SmackDown has at the moment. Let the Bryan match wait for the most important stage possible, with WrestleMania 37 likely seeming likely. Owens vs. Reigns will be fine for a big Royal Rumble blowoff on the way there.
