It’s a mystery. Over the course of wrestling history, there are certain tropes which are going to show up every so often because they work rather well. One of the best is to offer a mystery person, where it just isn’t clear who or what you are seeing taking place. That was the case again this week on NXT, though it might be a little bit bigger than what you usually see with something like this.
One of the best ideas that you can see in wrestling is the masked person. Not someone like Rey Mysterio mind you, but rather someone with a mask on to hide their identity, which will eventually be revealed. It makes for some interesting drama, as you might wonder who is behind something to set up some kind of a story in the future. That makes for some drama, and now we might have it twice at once.
During this week’s NXT Halloween Havoc, at least one masked person, dressed like the Ghostface Killer from the Scream franchise. The masked person appeared during both Spin The Wheel Make The Deal matches, first Johnny Gargano to defeat Damian Priest to become the new North American Title. Later, the same person attempted to help Candice LeRae to become the new Women’s Champion but failed thanks to interference from Shotzi Blackheart. There is no word on who the person is, or if it is the same person in both cases.
It’s a weird way to go. Check out the success and failure of the Ghostface:
Opinion: This is an interesting situation as you could have a few possible options, including either LeRae or Gargano, but the likely pick is Indi Hartwell, who seems to be interested in the Gargano Way. I’m not sure what that is going to mean long term, but it could be quite the interesting reveal one way or another. Either way, NXT has something a little bit interesting this time around and hopefully it works out.
What do you think of the idea? Who is under the mask? Let us know in the comments below.
