Back where it belongs. Beginning back in 2014, the NXT Takeover series has become one of the most well received series of wrestling shows in decades. The series has yet to have a truly bad entry, and really very few truly bad matches. That is the kind of track record that anyone would love to have and now NXT gets to put its winning streak on the line again with one of their biggest events of the year.

The Coronavirus pandemic has changed the way everything works in the WWE world. Not only can the shows have no fans, but they are stuck in Orlando, Florida and can go absolutely nowhere else at the moment. That will get better down the line, but it is not clear when that will be taking place. At the moment, WWE can only work with what they have though, and that will be the case again.

This week on NXT, General Manager William Regal announced the return of Takeover, with Takeover: XXX taking place on August 22. This will be the night before Summerslam, which has seen a Takeover event for the last five years. Already announced for the show is a match for the vacant North American Title, with qualifying matches having already begun to take place.

It’s a big one. Check out the announcement, plus some of Takeover’s greatest hits:

Opinion: As insane as everything has been as of late, it is nice to see that some traditions are continuing. That is the kind of thing you can never be sure about and it is great that some things are still staying the same. This Takeover has often been one of the best that the promotion offers and hopefully that is the case again this time. I’m not sure what I expect, but it should be awesome nonetheless.
