That might be it for a bit. There are certain stars in WWE who are just bigger deals than others. Names that high up on the depth chart are going to get special privileges that other stars just do not receive. You know these stars when you see them, or at least you do when they are around. That might not be the case for one of the more prominent stars around today.
The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Edge defeat Dominik Mysterio via DQ when Dominik Mysterio interfered. Following the match, the Judgment Day beat down Edge, including several chair shots to the knee, plus a Coup de Grace to the knee. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this was likely done to write Edge off of television as his contract only calls for him to work a set number of dates, which WWE will want to preserve.
Opinion: While it certainly seems that this was a way to write Edge off of television, that has appeared to be the case before and he was back the following week. That might happen next week as well, but last night’s beatdown seemed pretty definitive. You can only have Edge around so often before he loses some of his impact and I think WWE understands that fairly well at the moment. Edge being gone for a few weeks and coming back for revenge is a good thing and that very well might be where they are going.
