That doesn’t sound overly positive. With so many wrestlers coming through WWE’s doors as you see on a regular basis, it takes something special to have someone really stand out. You do see it occasionally though and often it is someone with a background in more traditional sports. That is something WWE had hoped for with a major name, but things are not going as planned.

Last year, WWE announced the signing of Gable Steveson, an NCAA and Olympic wrestling champion. While Steveson has appeared at some WWE events, he has yet to be regularly featured or wrestle a match. According to Dave Meltzer on the Sunday’s Night’s Main Event podcast, Steveson was supposed to debut at WrestleMania back in April and move into the main event scene.

WWE had hoped for Steveson to be the next Brock Lesnar and had set up a training are for him in Minnesota while he was wrestling in college. There is still no word on when Steveson will make his in-ring WWE debut. While Steveson is training with Ken Anderson, he is also discussing wrestling one more season at the University of Minnesota but has not made a decision.

Opinion: This isn’t exactly great news for WWE as Steveson is not looking like the can’t miss prospect that he seemed to be. The good thing is that he still hasn’t debuted so it isn’t like he has been a disaster and needs to recover. There is a chance that this is a delay rather than a stoppage and that is not the worst thing to hear. As long as it happens for him one day, that should work out.

What do you expect from Steveson? How big a star will he be in WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
