Notably absent. Commentary is one of the most important things in all of a wrestling show. Without proper commentary, fans might not be entirely clear on what they are watching or why they are watching it in the first place. A good commentator serves as a guide for the fans and shows them where to go and what to pay attention to. One of the better commentators was missing this weekend and now we know a bit more about why.
While some fans might not be the most fond of him, Mauro Ranallo has become one of the most well known commentators in wrestling today. With his mixture of pop culture and music references along with that powerful voice and pure emotion, Ranallo has become the voice of NXT and showcases his talents every single week. Well almost every single week, as things were a little different over the weekend.
Ranallo did not call last Saturday’s NXT Takeover: XXX and was replaced by Vic Joseph. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Ranallo missed the show due to an unspecified family matter. At the moment, it is not clear when Ranallo will be back calling the show. Ranallo has been calling the show remotely from his home studio in California and has not been at Full Sail University live in months.
Ranallo is as energized as any commentator. Check out some shots of him:
Opinion: I’m not sure what is going on with Ranallo but hopefully he is back sooner than later. Ranallo is the kind of guy who can do a lot of good things for a show and while he can get annoying at times, he leaves it all out there every single time. You won’t find someone who puts more energy and effort into his work and you can see whenever he is behind the microphone. Hopefully he is back soon because you miss him when he is gone.
