They were missing something. We are officially in the busy season of the WWE year and that means we are going to be seeing some big things going on one after another. That is the kind of thing that can excite wrestling fans because you know everything means something, even if it might not mean that we get to see everything that has happened in years past.
NXT has officially become one of the biggest parts of WWE. That is the kind of thing that a lot of wrestling fans have been wanting to see for a long time now. They have arrived on the main stage and that means they are going to get some special moments of their own as we head into WrestleMania. That includes Takeover: Portland, but there is going to be something that won’t be taking place.
Triple H took part in a conference call for this weekend’s Takeover: Portland event and was asked about why NXT did not hold a Halftime Heat event this year. The event has taken place three times over the years, with two of the events featuring a match. According to Triple H, there was no event this year due to WWE’s partnership with FOX, who was airing this year’s Super Bowl. WWE was not going to run an event which would take viewers away from FOX’s coverage of the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Triple H made it clear that he would be interested in running another Halftime Heat when FOX did not air the Super Bowl.
Halftime Heat is pretty cool. Check out both matches:
Opinion: Makes sense. At the end of the day, WWE is going to be beholden to whatever FOX wants them to do for a long time and there is nothing wrong with that. It’s not like Halftime Heat is some be all, end all moment for WWE so not having it for a year is hardly a game changer. I could go for having it back, but keeping FOX happier is much more important than a sixteen minute match at the Performance Center.
