Hurry up already! We are less than two days away from the Royal Rumble and the lineups for the namesake matches are a mixture of almost full and nearly wide open. That makes for some interesting final options as there are several spots available in the women’s match and only a handful in the men’s match. Some of both matches were filled up tonight in some interesting ways.
This year’s Royal Rumble matches are an interesting mixture as the men’s match only has a handful of spots left to fill while the women’s match has barely been built at all. As we came into the last television show before the pay per view, there were five remaining spots in the men’s match and twenty five remaining in the women’s match. Several of those are now taken.
This week on SmackDown, two spots in the men’s Royal Rumble match and four spots in the women’s Royal Rumble match were filled. Before the show’s main event, John Morrison and the Miz announced that they would be entering the men’s match. During the course of the show, Carmella, Dana Brooke, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose all announced their entries into the women’s Royal Rumble. It is not clear if the remaining spots will be filled before the Royal Rumble begins.
There was a lot going on this week. Check out some of the Royal Rumble announcements:
Opinion: They are going rather hard with the men’s Royal Rumble and I’m not sure how wise that is. Part of the appeal of the match is to have some surprises and with so many of the spots already taken, there are not many places left to get in some surprise names. On the other hand, the women’s match is so wide open that it is rather hard to guess who might wind up winning the thing. That makes for an exciting Rumble, but not the best build. In other words, find a middle ground for the two of them and you have the right combination.
