This might mean another hiatus. As John Cena’s movie and mainstream entertainment careers grow, his time in the WWE continues to shrink. That seems to be the case again as, according to Variety, Cena has joined the cast of the new comedy “The Pact”, co-starring Leslie Mann and produced by Seth Rogen. There is no date announced for the film’s release.

Cena’s acting career has jumped up in recent years with roles in films such as “Trainwreck” and “Sisters”. He has also been featured on television with guest hosting shots on “Good Morning America” and his own reality show, “American Grit.” However, combined with a string of injuries, these roles have taken Cena off a lot of WWE TV with only ten televised matches in 2016.

I know a lot of people will draw connections to the Rock but Cena shifting towards acting is a bit different. Cena is less than six months away from turning 40 and has been around WWE far longer than Rock ever was. The early part of his acting career has been successful and there’s a good chance that he could become a bigger deal as that area grows. I can’t imagine Cena ever being completely gone from WWE but it’s not much of a secret that he probably won’t ever be a full time wrestler again.
