That’s for later. We are rapidly approaching the Royal Rumble but that does not mean thing things are all going to be wrapping up on Sunday. There are still going to be several shows coming up after it, including two more pay per views on the Road To WrestleMania. WWE would be wise to save some material for the future and that seems to be what they set up this week.
The easiest way to set up a match in the future is to involve a title. It’s the simplest idea in all of wrestling: a champion has the title and the challenger wants it. There are all kinds of ways to set up a title match, especially if you have the challenger in mind. That is what WWE has for one of the titles on Monday Night Raw and now the title match is set, at least on paper.
This week on Monday Night Raw, Riddle successfully ran the Hurt Business gauntlet to earn a shot at Bobby Lashley’s United States Title. There is no word on when the title match will take place. Riddle defeated Shelton Benjamin, MVP and Cedric Alexander in order to earn the title shot. Following the match, Lashley came out and put Riddle in the Hurt Lock to leave him laying. Riddle previously challenged for the title on the January 11 Monday Night Raw.
It was a busy night. Check out Riddle’s gauntlet run:
Opinion: I’m not sure what kind of match this is going to be or when the match is going to take place, but at least they are setting something up in the future. Unfortunately there is a good chance that it is going to take place on a regular edition of Monday Night Raw rather than on a pay per view where a match like this belongs. Riddle is a real threat to Lashley’s title and that makes for an interesting match in the future.
