Any publicity is good publicity right? With everything else closed down around the sporting world, WWE is the only major sports company that is still running and certainly the only one running live at the moment. It gets them a lot more attention than they would usually have and that can make things a lot more interesting. However, not everything that goes on with that situation is a positive, and now the backlash seems to be beginning.

One of the biggest WWE stories of the week has been WWE being designated as essential business by the state of Florida. This has allowed them to continue to run live television shows three times a week, as live sports are considered part of the Florida economy. The story has made the mainstream rounds and now WWE is receiving a bit of flack to go with their good fortune.

I doubt WWE will be pleased. Check out a funny video on the situation (the WWE section begins at 2:12):

The Daily Show With Trevor Noah covered the story of WWE being deemed an essential business on Tuesday night’s show. The video includes a basic recap of the story, including a discussion of WWE convincing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to name them as an essential business. Noah also cut a WWE style promo on Triple H, followed by a parody video of WWE and DeSantis using footage of Seth Rollins turning on the Shield.

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that is just going to happen when a story like this breaks. Just the central message of the story does not make the most sense: the WWE, a professional wrestling organization, is essential to the Florida economy. How does WWE think that is going to sound to everyone outside of the wrestling bubble? You don’t see that very often and the backlash, as lighthearted as it may be, had to be expected.

What did you think of the video? Will this eventually backfire on WWE? Let us know in the comments below.
