That’s in a name. WWE runs a lot of pay per view events with some of them being more successful than others. One of the things that tends to happen more and more is naming a show after a particular theme, which can be a hit or miss prospect. Sometimes this works out well, but other times WWE leaves its fans scratching their heads. That seems to be the case again.
Later this month, WWE will be presenting Extreme Rules, which has been a regular pay per view since 2009. The concept is rather simple: have a bunch of matches held with rules that allow for additional violence and carnage. That isn’t a difficult idea to understand, but for some reason WWE decided to add a tagline to this year’s show. Now, they have changed it again.
The WWE.com previews for individual matches at Extreme Rules now refer to the show as The Horror Show At Extreme Rules. This comes over two weeks after the show was officially named “Extreme Rules: The Horror Show”. There is no word on why the second change was made. The only stipulation match announced to date is Bray Wyatt vs. Braun Strowman in a Swamp Fight.
WWE has done horror before. Check out some of their “horrific” moments:
Opinion: I’m wondering if this idea of a tagline is WWE’s newest way to draw interest in their shows. Last month it was the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever and now it’s The Horror Show. Maybe they might be better off dropping the main show names like Backlash or Extreme Rules and just going with the subtitles, as they don’t leave you with such strange combinations. Or just have better and more interesting shows instead of needing something like that.
