The show is coming together. With just over three weeks to go before Backlash, WWE has some time to set things up the way they want to. The show is a little bit different than recent pay per views as there is no major theme, meaning WWE can put together a more traditional card this time around. That is what they seem to be doing, but one match isn’t quite the same.
Back at WrestleMania 36, Braun Strowman finally broke through the glass ceiling to win a World Title as he defeated Goldberg to become the Universal Champion. This presented a bit of a problem as Strowman is a huge and powerful monster, meaning he is going to need the right kind of challenger. That can be hard to find, so WWE is thinking outside the box a bit this time around.
During this week’s SmackDown, John Morrison challenged Strowman to a handicap match for the title against himself and the Miz for Backlash. Strowman accepted and the title match was made official. This came after Strowman defeated Miz in a non-title match, despite Morrison getting involved. The match will be Strowman’s second title defense, after he successfully defeated Bray Wyatt at Money in the Bank.
There is firepower on both sides. Check out who is going after the title:
Opinion: This might not be the best idea after the way Miz and Morrison were handled by Strowman. I’m assuming that this is going to be designed to move on to the Fiend coming after the title as the match on its own is hardly interesting. Miz and Morrison are a great team, but they aren’t the kind of guys who are going to be a real threat to Strowman and the title. Hopefully the match is good, because the story isn’t the best.
