Make your picks. Tournament are a simple concept and something that anyone can understand. You have a group of people, you put them in a bracket of some sort and the last person standing wins a prize. It’s as basic as you can get and it works almost every time. Given the current situation around the world, tournament are all the rage and another one has kicked off.
Earlier this week, WWE announced that Sami Zayn was being stripped of the Intercontinental Title due to inactivity. As a result, the title would be held up in a tournament to crown a new champion. That opened up a lot of possibilities but we didn’t know too many details. A few days have passed though and now the picture has gotten a lot more clear.
This week on SmackDown, WWE unveiled the brackets for the Intercontinental Title tournament. There are eight entrants in the field and the finals will take place on an unspecified episode of SmackDown. Here are the brackets:
Daniel Bryan
Drew Gulak
Jeff Hardy
Sheamus
Elias
King Corbin
AJ Styles
Shinsuke Nakamura
Styles is the only Monday Night Raw start in the field. Two first round matches took place on SmackDown, with Elias defeating Corbin and Bryan defeating Gulak.
Some of these people have held the title before. Check out some former champions:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you need to do and the field is looking pretty good. There are all kinds of ways you can go with something like this and it makes things that much more interesting. If nothing else, this kind of a tournament gives eight wrestlers something to do during the Coronavirus pandemic. There are multiple possible winners too and that makes things even better.
