Nice to meet you. NXT is as unique of a wrestling promotion as you can get, as the show is both a mixture of the WWE’s official developmental system as well as its own national television show. That can make things a little complicated, as you don’t know when someone is going to get called up. This time around, someone was called up before they even debuted on television.
One of the best ways to push a heel is to give them a lackey. This could be anything from an enforcer or a goon or anything in between. Sometimes it is someone playing a specific role but being around to interfere as well. The good thing about this is that it can be someone who is not all that well known in the first place, which seemed to be the case this week on SmackDown.
Carmella debuted a new assistant this week on SmackDown, with an unnamed man debuting as her sommelier, putting him in charge of the champagne for after her match against Sasha Banks. The sommelier was played by NXT wrestler Akeem Young, who has yet to debut on NXT or have a match on a live event. Young only signed with NXT in January and has performed with Cirque de Soleil’s Luzia.

You might need to get used to him. Check out some of Young’s debut night:
Opinion: I have no idea what this is going to mean for Young’s future, because it is little more than a cameo. There is no guarantee that he is going to be sticking around but it is a way to get him on television, which is more than a lot of wrestlers are able to do. Young is probably just someone they picked off a long list, but good for him for at least getting a chance like this.
What did you think of the idea? How much can he help Carmella? Let us know in the comments below.
