Backstage News On Paul Heyman’s Influence On Roman Reigns Partnership

He’s a good choice. The biggest WWE story over the last few weeks may be the new union between Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman. The two of them got together just before the Payback pay per view, moving Roman Reigns into a heel turn for the first time in several years. It was quite the shock to a lot of people and the two have been successful so far. Now we know a little bit more about the pairing.

The story had instant benefits for everyone, as Reigns and Heyman play off of each other very well. Reigns is already a fine talker in his own right and has all of the physical gifts you could ask for from someone. But now he has this evil influence on his shoulder and has already won the Universal Title. That is quite the story, and it turns out that it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.

According to Fightful Select, Heyman has a lot of influence on Reigns’ character since his return at Summerslam. Heyman has been involved in his promos, the booking of his match at Payback, and both segments the two have been involved in. This is seen as similar to how Heyman has been influential in the booking of Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey and Goldberg.

Opinion: On the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD, Heyman talked about Terry Funk’s time in ECW, when Funk said he wanted to work with all kinds of people because he could make something special happen. Heyman said that Funk did exactly that, with everyone that he worked with. This seems to be what Heyman can do as well and it has been great. Maybe he shouldn’t be in charge of a whole show, but he can do some awesome things with individuals, which is more than most can say.
