He’s an option too. We are less than three weeks away from the Royal Rumble and that means the card still has a lot of time to grow and change along the way. That can be a good thing for a lot of what is already scheduled, as some of the matches might be better off with some adjustments. Now we might know another option for one of the biggest matches on the card.
Last week on SmackDown, Roman Reigns helped WWE executive Adam Pearce to become the new #1 contender to Reigns’ Universal Title. That is not the kind of thing that made a lot of sense to some people as Pearce has never wrestled a match in WWE and has not had a match anywhere in six years. It is the kind of match that made people think a change was coming and now we know a bit more about that.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there is a chance that Shinsuke Nakamura could be used as Pearce’s replacement to challenge Reigns for the title. Nakamura was the final wrestler eliminated from the gauntlet match with Reigns costing him the match. Another previously mentioned replacement option is Kevin Owens, who was put on the shelf after a Reigns attack.
Opinion: This is one of the more logical changes that WWE could make, though I can’t shake the feeling that they might actually have Reigns face Pearce at the show. After back to back Jey Uso pay per view title shots, is it really that far out of the question? This is something that could be a lot of fun and it isn’t like Pearce is someone who has never been in the ring before. Nakamura is an option for sure, but Pearce isn’t completely written off.
