It could be interesting. Women’s wrestling has come a very long way in recent years and that is a great thing. While the WWE Women’s Revolution gets most of the attention, there has been some very good women’s wrestling outside of WWE as well. One of the biggest accomplishments took place in Impact Wrestling, and the woman who reached that milestone may be getting a new home.
One of the bigger stories that wound up falling by the wayside in 2020 was Tessa Blanchard becoming the Impact Wrestling World Champion at Hard To Kill back in January. Blanchard became the first woman to hold a major promotion’s World Title, but then things started going south. She would never lose the title, instead being stripped of it when she left the company in June. Blanchard had some other issues in January, and now those might be keeping her from getting a job.
/According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is divided over bringing Blanchard into the company. While there are people who feel that she is worth bringing in due to her talents alone, another group believes that she is not worth the baggage. This comes from accusations of racism and bullying lobbied against Blanchard in January, dating back to a previous tour of Japan. Blanchard denied the allegations against her. She is currently a free agent, having only wrestled once since leaving Impact Wrestling.
They’re missing a lot. Check out what Blanchard could do:
Opinion: I can see both sides of this as allegations like these are never going to completely go away. Blanchard is indeed an incredibly talented wrestler, but how long is she going to stick around if she winds up in AEW? How long is it before something goes haywire and AEW has a lot of scrambling to do in a hurry? There is an argument to be made for bringing her in, but I’m not sure if it is strong enough.
