It was Banks’ year. The year 2020 has finally, and I do mean finally, come to a close and that means that it is time to start looking back on everything that happened in the year. Believe it or not there were some good things that took place over the course of the year in the wrestling world and now one of the more prominent names is getting a pretty special recognition.

There are a lot of moving parts on WWE television but the SmackDown women’s division had a rather banner year in 2020. The division featured some outstanding matches and storytelling, including a betrayal leading to a massive face turn and much more. That amount of quality deserves some attention of its own and one of the division’s bigger names has earned it.

Sports Illustrated has announced that Sasha Banks has been named their Top Wrestler In The World for the year 2020. Banks spent most of the year on SmackDown, where she held the Women’s Tag Team Titles with Bayley along with the SmackDown Women’s Title, ending Bayley’s record reign. She also went over to Monday Night Raw for a short time, where she won the Raw Women’s Title. Outside of the ring, Banks appeared in the Disney+ series The Mandolorian.

Here’s the Top Ten:

1. Sasha Banks
2. Jon Moxley
3. Drew McIntyre
4. Tetsuya Naito
5. Kenny Omega
6. Bayley
7. Io Shirai
8. Kota Ibushi
9. Roman Reigns
10. Eddie Kingston

Banks had a great year. Check out some of her 2020:

Opinion: That’s a surprising pick as you might not think of Banks as the top of the company over the course of the year. Banks certainly had a great year and won her share of titles, so it’s not like this is some kind of a completely insane choice. Hopefully Banks can top her year in 2021, because things might be starting to get back to normal and she can have an even bigger stage.
