After former WWE Champion The Rock set the Internet on fire with a teaser tweet late Saturday night claiming he was in Philadelphia, it appears there may be some substance to a potential “Royal Rumble” appearance.

According to a report from Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of FWOnline, The Rock is expected to appear at the “Royal Rumble” pay-per-view in some capacity. The two note it is unknown what his role would be as of now, but there is speculation any appearance Sunday night could lead to something more going forward.

Meltzer says, as once thought, The Rock and Triple H were slated at one point for a match at WrestleMania 31. With Sting in the equation with The Authority, it appears that match is off the tables. With that said, the two predict is Rock is in the Royal Rumble match itself, he is likely to win and headline the main event in Santa Clara, California March 29.

Moreover, the man behind the Wrestling Observer Newsletter says despite their encounter on “RAW” last fall, The Rock is not expected to enter a program with Rusev and Lana.

Many will recall he was slated for a match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX, but plans changed when the former could not commit to the event. Promotion for “Furious 7,” a film The Rock will star in, is supposed to begin shortly, with the movie being set for release just days after WrestleMania.

The Rock, real name Dwayne Johnson, had noted he was not expected to be at WrestleMania 31 last year. He will be 43 this year.
