With the 2015 “Royal Rumble” drawing near, WWE Superstar Roman Reigns may finally start on his ascent to WWE’s throne. For the past year, WWE has been planning to prime Reigns as the company’s next poster boy.

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin addressed the situation on the latest episode of his podcast, “The Steve Austin Show.” In episode 188 of his “Unleashed!” version of the podcast, which is uncensored and more in-depth, the topic of Roman Reigns came up.

The WWE Hall of Famer talked about Reigns still needing a bit of work both in the ring and on the microphone:

“He has all the makings of a superstar. [Though,] WWE needs to stop scripting his promos and just let him do his thing. He needs a little more experience in the ring; he needs to learn to grab a body part. I like a lot of that guy’s game.”

The three-time Royal Rumble winner continued, stating he thinks Reigns will one day be a huge star for WWE:

“When you put it all together, he’s a superstar, but to be the guy, you need a good work rate. You need to be able to tell a story. He’s just lacking a little bit on the offensive arsenal and salesmanship. He’s still relatively green, but I’m betting that he’ll make it and he’ll be a big star. WWE can put a rocket ship on anybody, and push them straight to the moon. But if you can’t do your end of it, you won’t get as high as they intended.”

Listen to Austin’s entire show, here. He also talks about WWE referees and how they are utilized today, his current CMT reality show “Broken Skull Challenge,” and much more.

Editor’s Note

Good take from Austin. Because Reigns is still lacking in some areas, it may be too soon to push him to the moon. If Reigns does win the Royal Rumble, I think more harm may be done than good. WWE can potentially set back, or even ruin, a potential poster boy.
