Sami Zayn was a fan favorite on NXT, frequently called the “heart and soul” of the brand. His fortunes haven’t been so great since hitting the main roster.

While Zayn has had some high profile matches on Raw in recent months, it sounds like those matches have been made in the absence of top babyfaces like Seth Rollins and Finn Balow, and will soon be coming to an end.

After a storyline which suggested that Sami would move to SmackDown, a switch to the blue brand has been a source of frequent speculation for fans. But Zayn himself isn’t quite ready to make the move.

In an interview with the Mirror, Sami said. “In some ways, going to SmackDown Live would be really cool. I feel like there are a lot of good opponents for me and I think there is a lot of opportunity there. I can really see myself being in a pretty good spot up there, even wrestling for the WWE Championship. But I feel like if I left tomorrow, assuming that the draft is tomorrow, I’d feel a little incomplete.”

“I’d feel like there was more that I could have accomplished on Raw,” he continued. “I like to leave each place better than I left it so I’d like to do more on Raw and make Raw a better place and accomplish more on Raw before I can even start thinking of going to SmackDown. That’s just the way that the chips fall and if I end up on SmackDown, I’d be happy to be there but I’d still feel like I had more to accomplish on Raw.”

Sami Zayn demands to be taken off the Team Red roster: Raw, Dec. 12, 2016

It’s an admirable goal, to be sure. With talk of 2017’s draft intensifying, things are getting interesting.
