It’s been easy to dismiss the recent talk of Goldberg’s return as just another round of wishful thinking. The return of the WCW star has been a constant in the rumor mill for years. But multiple sources are reporting that a big match announcement is imminent.
According to both reporter Dave Meltzer and former WWE announcer Jim Ross, Goldberg will face off against Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series.

Goldberg vs. Lesnar has been a central point of the marketing of WWE 2K17, and it’s likely that WWE has used fan response to that fantasy matchup to gauge interest in a real life version.
Goldberg vs. Lesnar first occurred at WrestleMania XX, featuring “Stone Cold” Steve Austin as a special guest referee. Both men were rumored to be leaving WWE soon at the time, leading to a very negative crowd during the match. It’s widely regarded as one of the most disappointing matches in WrestleMania history.
With Lesnar as a Raw signee, it’s likely that the storyline will bring Goldberg to SmackDown to set up an inter-brand rivalry. Perhaps Shane McMahon will seek revenge for the injuries dealt to Randy Orton at SummerSlam.
