Rumor: Goldberg in Very Serious Talks With WWE

The idea of Goldberg making a return to WWE has floated around for years, drifting between “rumor” and “wishful thinking” for most of that time. However, it seems that we’re closer to realizing that dream than ever before.

Today’s Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Goldberg is in “very serious” talks with WWE. Those negotiations may, in fact, already be complete.

Goldberg is set to appear on this week’s Off the Top Rope segment for ESPN’s SportsCenter, and it’s possible that his status with WWE will be addressed there.

The former WCW and WWE star is a central focus for the marketing of the upcoming WWE 2K17 video game, and it’s likely that this relationship has opened the doors for Goldberg’s return to the squared circle.

Survivor Series in November is the next of WWE’s “big four” pay-per-view events, and if Goldberg will be set to have a match outside of WrestleMania, this is the earliest likely arena for it.

The marketing for 2K17 has also focused on a dream match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, and it would make sense for WWE to take this existing build-up and use it to hype a showdown between the two on PPV. (Hopefully it will turn out better than their disappointing match at WrestleMania XX.)

Take this as you would any rumor, as plans are subject to change and Goldberg could appear on WWE TV merely to promote a video game. But it seems we’re closer than ever to seeing his “one more match.”
