The big story of Takeover Toronto was the shocking victory of Samoa Joe over the previously undefeated Shinsuke Nakamura, where Joe reclaimed the NXT Championship through sheer, inevitable violence.
However, the singles title wasn’t the only belt to change hand last night. After a lengthy feud with the Revival, the team known as #DIY–Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa–finally proved themselves, capturing the NXT Tag Team Championships in a show-stealing two-out-of-three falls match.
Here’s what Gargano and Ciampa had to say after the victory.
Gargano and Ciampa have been producing excellent matches as both friends and rivals. Their previous contest with the Revival at Takeover Brooklyn II was matched in quality only by last night’s bout, and their match with each other during the Cruiserweight Classic was a highlight of an already stellar show.
But now we have to ask of the Revival, as with all recently defeated NXT Champions, are they moving to the main roster soon? The Revival has put on consistently great matches with the likes of Enzo & Cass, #DIY, and American Alpha, and it’s reasonable to call them one of the greatest successes of NXT. If you discount established indie names who’ve entered NXT, the Revival could be the greatest act to come out of WWE’s developmental system.
Survivor Series is, historically, the day for debuts. Could we see the Revival make a major debut tonight? There’s no substantive word, but we do have a pair of tweets for the tandem that suggest change is in the air for them.
