SmackDown Live’s second exclusive pay-per-view, No Mercy, is set to go down this Sunday, and the blue brand is looking to finally smash its reputation as WWE’s “B” show. The weekly program has done a terrific job of building this weekend’s storylines, and every title is up for grabs, including the most prestigious prize in pro wrestling. For some the stakes are even higher championship gold, but will the matches be able to deliver?

Tune in to find out October 9th at 8PM Eastern on the WWE Network.

Dolph Ziggler vs. The Miz in a Career versus Title Match for the Intercontinental Championship

The Story: Dolph Ziggler calls himself the Show-Off, and it’s not without reason. He’s rarely at the top of the card, but his matches are a highlight of any show he’s on. The problem is that while he’s busy stealing the show, he’s losing those matches. He got a world championship opportunity at SummerSlam and lost. He got a shot at the Miz’s Intercontinental Championship and lost. The fans are on his side once again, but he can only lose so many times before they lose interest once again.

That’s why he’s put his career on the line for one more shot at the Intercontinental Championship. His opponent, the Miz, has a lot to prove as well. He’s been called out by GM Daniel Bryan for his cowardly in-ring style, and he’s out to prove that his title reign is truly never-ending. In his quest for glory, he wants to be the one to put Ziggler’s career out of its misery, and prove his own worth as champion in the process.

The Prediction: This is one of the most interesting matches to predict, because the possible outcomes are so wild. Normally, a “career on the line” situation means that the career will miraculously be rescued, but a number of backstage rumblings suggest that this might really be it for Dolph Ziggler. His contract is up this month, and there’s been frequent talk of his moving to a backstage role in WWE or moving on to a career in stand-up. It seems that Ziggler and the Miz are good friends outside of the ring, which makes the possibility of this being a true retirement match even more intriguing. It’s by no means a certainty, but there’s a very real possibility that this will be Ziggler’s final match.
