WWE fans are very familiar with the concept of the Big Four pay-per-views. Starting in 1988, you were guaranteed the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam and Survivor Series around the same time every year. Well now it appears that there’s going to be an NXT version of the same idea starting starting in summer 2017.

According to WWE.com, there will be an NXT event the night before “Royal Rumble 2017” in San Antonio, Texas — the same city as the Royal Rumble. While this isn’t listed as a Takeover special, it would be very surprising if this were not a televised special on the WWE Network. The upcoming “Takeover: Toronto” was originally a Toronto house show, but was rescheduled to the night before “Survivor Series 2016.”

This is a good thing for wrestling fans. The Takeover series has quickly become a highlight, with some of the best action of the year. The shows regularly have match-of-the-year candidates, and often serve as a last hurrah for several NXT stars, including Sami Zayn and Bayley this year alone. Putting them together with the Big Four pay-per-views is a smart way to elevate NXT’s importance; it certainly gives WWE more competition.

Do you have any objections to Takeover being paired with the Big Four pay per views? What would you like to see at “Takeover: San Antonio?” Let us know in the comments below.
