Enzo Amore calls himself the “Smacktalker Skywalker,” and his downright lyrical promos have been instrumental to the success of his team with Colin Cassady, both in NXT and now on the main roster. Their debut the night after WrestleMania was thunderous, and even with a series of losses and a head injury taking Enzo out of action, the pair hasn’t lost an ounce of momentum.
You can attribute a lot of that to Enzo’s considerable abilities on the mic, which he discussed this week in an ESPN interview.
Amore said “You’re talking to me and I’m not even answering you because I’m constantly thinking towards ways in which words play. Just things that are funny to make people interact and to keep the audience participating. My mind is always going in that direction.”
He attributes some of that success to the promo classes he attended in NXT under the late, great Dusty Rhodes, but his constant preparation speaks more to his success. Enzo spends untold hours preparing promo material, writing down turns of phrase that catch his ear and that an audience might latch onto, making notes in his phone that are backed up to a cloud server.

The result is what Enzo estimates to be 1,000 pages of promo material ready to fly at a moment’s notice. He says that a comment by another wrestler can always trigger the memory of something he’s got written down there, leaving the Certified G with a slick comeback any time he needs it.
Enzo also talked about his unique fashion sense, which gives him a chance to highlight his love of shoes in the ring every Monday night. “We are globally watched by millions of people on a weekly basis,” Amore said. “If that’s not a platform for sneakers, I haven’t seen one in my life.”
The flamboyant star also talked about reigning in his promos for a family-friendly show. “Basically, they are entrusting you to go out there and to be a role model for children and keep everything that you are doing within the PG confines of this great brand,” Enzo said. “There is definitely times when I toe the line, I straddle it and people are probably wincing in the back.”
