#2: “Graveyard Symphony” – The Undertaker
Bone chilling, eerie, and amazingly composed, “Graveyard Symphony” is the perfect accompaniment to the greatest gimmick in professional wrestling history, The Undertaker. Mark Calaway’s historic, and soon-to-be Hall of Fame recognized run in the WWF/WWE as “The Dead Man,” will forever be associated with this theme. Even though ‘Taker did change themes from time-to-time, like during the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Eras, “The Phenom” is still known for his extremely long, and extremely popular entrance set to “Graveyard Symphony.”
It transcends wrestling into other sports as well. When a hometown team wants to signify to their fans that the other team is about to “be buried,” they’ll play “Graveyard “Symphony” to hint at their demise. It’s a classic piece of music that combines portions of Frédéric Chopin’s “Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 35” and Jim Johnston’s brilliance. You could…”rest”…assured that once the bell tolled and the lights went out, everyone in the arena would be on their feet. 20 years later, nothing is any different, for when the bell tolls and the Symphony begins, everyone knows that the “Dead Man” will appear…and someone will rest…in…peace.
