New information is being provided by PWInsider.com, that Colt Cabana’s “WWE Tryout” was not recent. We recently reported that Cabana had recently taken part in 2 WWE tryouts for a commentary position, however according to PWInsider, this is not the case.

Apparently, one of Cabana’s tryouts with the WWE took place in February, and the other sometime in 2012 . After CM Punk’s “Best in the World” DVD was released, there were several WWE officials who wanted to re-evaluate Cabana as a commentator, because they liked how well he communicated on situations throughout the DVD.

Cabana had previously done some commentary work in FCW while under a WWE developmental deal. As we reported, The Wrestling Observer had stated that CM Punk was indeed instrumental in getting Cabana his “recent” tryouts, however it was WWE who approached Cabana himself.
