F4Wonline.com is reporting that the match up of Rob Van Dam vs. Antonio Cesaro may “kick off” SummerSlam on August 18th. Originally, backstage sources claimed that a WWE Divas match would open the show, but now officials are leaning more towards RVD vs. Cesaro.

With the PPV event taking place in nine days, WWE Creative and Vince McMahon are trying to finalize the card as soon as possible. Once the show’s line-up is set, then the company can spend the remaining days between Monday Night Raw and SummerSlam promoting the matches that will take place.

WWE officials are said to be very happy about the in-ring work both men have been doing lately, and that an opening bout between the two could really get the crowd into the show right away. Officials have said that they thought the Usos vs The Shield Money In The Bank “Kick Off” match was a huge success, giving the fans a lot to talk about early on in the night, and would love for Van Dam vs. Cesaro to have the same effect.
