The latest edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio,” as provided some backstage news regarding Daniel Bryan’s title match with Kane at “Money In The Bank.” It was announced that Bryan would face Kane for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on June 29, or he would be stripped of the title during the June 2 edition of “Monday Night Raw.” The report from the episode claims this was done as a shoot, seeing as though the company has no real idea as to win Bryan will be able to compete again.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com, the reason behind this stipulation that was announced by Stephanie McMahon on “RAW” lies in the company’s real lack of knowledge regarding Bryan’s health and status for the “Money In The Bank” event. They made the “either Bryan defends his title or he’s stripped of the title” stipulation simply because he may or may not be prepared to compete by June 29.
Meltzer continued to claim the company is putting pressure on Bryan to return to work early from injury to keep his championship run alive, but that they are not expecting him to be prepared to compete at “Money In The Bank.” A WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match will likely take place at the event, instead of the annual Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Bryan recently had neck surgery to address nagging injuries that he had been suffering from for some time. When under-the-knife, doctor’s recognized and relieved pressure being applied to certain nerves, and this was said to provide Bryan with the relief he needed. Bryan has now been working on getting cleared by doctors so that he may return to the job that he loves.
However, no definitive time table has been set for Bryan’s in-ring return, which is why this stipulation was added. The company literally does not know when Bryan will be able to return to action. They are shooting for “Money In The Bank,” which is why Bryan vs Kane is currently the only official match booked on the card for the event, but if Bryan cannot go on June 29, he will be stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the titles will be on-the-line during the annual Money in the Bank Ladder Match held at the event.
Normally, the Money in the Bank Ladder Match consists of contestants fighting for a briefcase which holds a contract for a WWE title match. The winner can then cash-in that contract any time within one year. If Bryan cannot compete at the event, then the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be contested for during the ladder match instead of a briefcase, leading many to wonder if Bryan can’t compete and the titles are up-for-grabs during the originally planned out ladder match, will another Money in the Bank Ladder Match be added to the card on June 29 for an actual briefcase?
Editor’s Note:
Good to see their covering their bases. Shows me they’re planning things out in advance. Weird that they are basically telling everyone that they have no lead when Bryan is coming back though.
