The man is back again. Pro Wrestling Illustrated has named its Wrestler of the Year and Woman of the Year for 2018 in its latest issue, as voted by the readers. The awards go to AJ Styles for Wrestler of the Year and Becky Lynch for Woman of the Year.
The man recently called out John Cena on an episode of Smackdown Live; you can see a clip of that below:
Below are some other interesting statistics regarding the voting, courtesy of Wrestling Inc.:
- Lynch received 40% of the vote for Woman of the Year, while Ronda Rousey received 36%.
- Rousey achieved a near-record 87 percent of the vote in being named “Rookie of the Year.”
- Styles was named “Wrestler of the Year” for the third straight year. He earned 46 percent of the votes in the “Wrestler of the Year” category, followed by Kenny Omega (17 percent), Cody (8 percent), and Seth Rollins (7 percent).
- The only other wrestler to receive WOTY honors for three straight years is Ric Flair (1984-1986).
Lynch was also named Wrestler of the Year for 2018 by CBS Sports.
No surprises here at all. It’s hard to argue with either choice, as both of them have been so dominant in their respective divisions; particularly in the second half of 2018. Congratulations to both superstars on a well-deserved honor!
