The layoffs continue. According to a report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Cain Velasquez has been released by WWE. He was last seen on WWE programming when he faced Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel in October 2019.
According to the report, Velasquez was released from his WWE contract as part of a wider range of releases and furloughs that took place earlier this month.
Here’s what happened the last time he and The Beast locked up:
Velasquez made his debut with the company on the October 4, 2019 episode of Smackdown; the first show that aired on FOX. He appeared in the final segment of the show, right after Lesnar defeated Kofi Kingston in record time to win the WWE Championship.
Prior to this, Velasquez defeated Lesnar at UFC 121 on October 23, 2010, to become the new UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Editor’s Note:
He was still under contract by WWE? I had no idea. While his run in the company was something that was a bit of a flop, there is still some potential there and I hope that he makes his return someday.
