Backstage News on Planned “No Mercy” Title Matches

On October 9, “Smackdown Live” will host their second pay-per-view that is specific to their brand, as “No Mercy” emulates from Sacramento, California. Two matches that have already been announced are a triple threat match for the WWE World Championship between champion AJ Styles, John Cena and Dean Ambrose, and a contest between Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss for the “Smackdown” Women’s Championship.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning two other title matches at the event. Heath Slater and Rhyno are rumored to face The Usos for the “Smackdown” tag team championships, and The Miz and Dolph Ziggler will have a rematch from “Backlash” for the Intercontinental Championship.

The current plan is to have The Usos take the titles away from Slater & Rhyno, and then feud with American Alpha upon Chad Gable’s return to the company.

Also, it is being rumored that the Miz/Ziggler match will take place inside of a steel cage so that Maryse will be unable to interfere.

Editor’s Note:

There are no surprises here. In my opinion, Ziggler and Miz put on the match of the night at “Backlash,” and adding the element of the cage will only up what they can do.  And as much as I love what WWE is doing with Heath Slater right now, he does need to be a singles star, in order to maximize his potential within the company.
