Rob Van Dam has had a storied history with WWE. The former WWE and ECW champion has had his mix of highs an lows with the company, including suspensions due to drug possession, and bad creative direction in his latest stint with the company.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, RVD stated that he hopes to return to his old stomping grounds. “I have an open door with WWE as far as wrestling goes,” Van Dam stated, “…I hope that the right opportunity presents itself so that I will do another run with WWE…but the business end of it also has to be right.”

Will Mr. Monday Night return to being just that in light of the return of WWE’s brand split? Will this prove beneficial to WWE if the opportunity presents itself to inject Van Dam back into the lineup?

Certainly the WWE is doing fine without Rob Van Dam. It is likely that Van Dam needs the WWE more than the WWE needs him at this point. While RVD has always been exciting to watch, we have to wonder with his age climbing in numbers–he is now 45–if he can continue to wow like he did in decades prior.

In the meantime, Rob Van Dam will continue to be seen in the independent circuit, until WWE calls him up again, if they do at all.
