Kenny Omega had an amazing 2016. With the rest of the world eyeballing WWE as the apex to reach, Omega stuck it out in the land of the rising sun and New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The results of his decision are immediately noticeable. Having become the first foreign pro wrestler ever to win the Japanese federation’s G1 Climax tournament, the Canadian also won multiple awards in the Tokyo Sports Awards, and even a six star to boot off his strong performance with Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11.
But it seems like the only one not satisfied with his performance in that storied match is Omega himself.
“I had a lot of people telling me, ‘That’s the best match I’ve ever seen,'” said Omega to Tokyo Sports of the bout. “It got a lot of US media attention…but if there was anything I was unsatisfied about (regarding the match), even 1%, it was that I didn’t win. Next time I hope to win off a victory for myself.”
However, Omega did acknowledge how important it was to win the coveted G1 title. “Many people (in the Bullet Club) moved to WWE this year, but I wanted to do something no one else had done. History has been changed, and it was an amazing experience for me.”
