According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as of this week, the plan for the upcoming pay-per-view Night of Champions is to have Daniel Bryan up against Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. Night of Champions will take place on September 15, 2013,  live from The Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

The report also states that John Cena will not be in the title picture at this time, likely due to his upcoming surgery plans on his elbow. As we previously reported, these surgery plans may have Cena take time off after SummerSlam. As of yet, there is no word on who the WWE Champion would be if the match were to come to fruition. Even though “The Viper” Randy Orton is not involved in the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam, as the WWE Championship Money in the Bank holder, he may very well cash-in for a shot at the title after the match.

WWE “SummerSlam” airs on Pay-Per-View Sunday, August 18, 2013. WrestlingRumors.net will of course have full live coverage and results of the event, and you can “live tweet” along side of us on Twitter by following us @WrestleRumors.

We will also be hosting a special “SummerSlam Pre-Show” via Google Hangouts, where we want YOU, the Wrestling Rumors faithful, to join us as we break down the final card match-by-match before the big show gets underway. “Wresting Rumors’ SummerSlam Hangout” will begin at 6:00pm ET on August 18th!
