At the Night of Champions pay-per-view, in the main event of the night, a new WWE Champion was crowned. In a match that had WWE Champion Randy Orton defend his title against Daniel Bryan, WWE COO Triple H ordered that no outside interference was made. This late change to the match helped Daniel Bryan to once again become WWE Champion.

However, Bryan’s newest reign may not last that long. Although Bryan pinned Orton, WWE referee Scott Armstrong delivered a noticeably fast count that allowed Bryan to pick up the win. Armstrong was knocked out during the match, after taking a bump that knocked him out of the ring, but he eventually returned to referee the match.
