The average WWE fan feels about one of two ways about Finn Balor. He’s either a bland babyface without much of a character who looks cool in facepaint, or he has become the most underutilized performers on the main roster. It’s not to say he’s done nothing, but Balor was the first-ever WWE Universal Champion and that was over two years ago.

The rumored reason for Balor’s booking has to do with “preserving The Demon.” Why book him against Roman Reigns or Brock Lesnar and kill his momentum? On paper, it’s a logical reason but it’s left Finn Balor as a midcard performer for two years. The WWE Universe doesn’t like his position in the company jerkin’ the curtain for everyone one.
According to a report from RingSideNews, Cody just came to the defense of Finn Balor’s position in WWE. Cody said the following to a fan on social media over the weekend:
Opening match is sometimes one of the more coveted spots on the card. Bunch of responsibility too…and for the biggest wrestling company in the world as well. https://t.co/XDgM6MdiIl

In a nutshell, there are two things happening here. Cody is attempting to provide some perspective to the WWE Universe that there’s a lot more to the company than just being in the main event or the WWE Champion. Finn Balor has established a role for himself on the roster and WWE officials have no problem utilizing him in the opening matchup.
The other dynamic is showcasing how the WWE Universe feels about Finn Balor and his potential. That’s a sign that fans want to see more from him. That’s important because a number of fans are willing to fight for him despite lackluster booking for two years. The case of Finn Balor is an interesting one. You have to believe his chance is coming soon.
