However, the purpose of the “WWE Divas Revolution” was to clean that image and give WWE’s women much more focus and respect on WWE television.
It’s been revealed recently that not everyone feels that WWE is improving that image. Some feel it’s exposing their true sexist nature.
A few questionable moments during the last week of WWE programming has caught the eye of Vocatic.com’s Alex Goot. The journalist wrote an article entitled, “WWE’s Sexist Problem is Just Getting Worse.” You can read the full article right here.
The first moment in question took place during the WWE Divas Championship match between Becky Lynch and Charlotte at the “Royal Rumble” PPV. Charlotte’s manager Ric Flair planted a forceful kiss on Lynch to distract her from Charlotte. It was played off as a joke and a character trait from Flair, but it’s being picked at by Goot and others.
The second moment was during The Rock’s return on Monday Night Raw and the interaction with Lana. Even though it was clearly for entertainment purposes and Rock was joking, the sexual jokes he made about Lana have ruffled some feathers about WWE’s sexism issues.
WWE has posted the following statement on these complaints:
“WWE programming, which features fictional characters that cover a range of personalities similar to movies and television shows, tells stories of good versus evil. In addition, as our on-going storylines develop, we will continue to position women as both strong competitors and compelling individuals.”
