Whether you get released by WWE of your own accord or are released by the company, there is a ninety-day non-compete clause that everyone knows about, but WWE may have taken it a step further.
You may notice that most former WWE talents that have been released by the company earlier this year, including Cody Rhodes haven’t done many interviews or done many podcasts since their release.
Well, as it turns out there is a reason for that. According to an exclusive report from Fistful.com, WWE had placed a “gag order” on several of the released talents from this past Spring.
For example, one of those names was Cody Rhodes, which is why you heard news about Rhodes signing for several bookings once his non-compete with WWE had expired, but he wasn’t granted to do any interviews.
WWE had placed a stipulation in Rhodes contract specifically for that because Cody had requested his release well before the contract was set to expire.
On paper, it makes sense for WWE to do as a company. If a talent can’t compete for ninety days, they may as well mouth off about the company for three months and then go wrestle. However, it is kind of handcuffing a wrestler for a stretch of time when they’re just trying to earn a living.
