Why Didn’t Mickie James Make a Live Appearance During NXT’s Tapings?

Mickie James was officially announced as Asuka’s opponent for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover: Toronto next month. However, she made a video appearance on the titantron rather than appearing live during the show.

In the past, the video appearance has worked quite well. Shinsuke Nakamura was announced as Sami Zayn’s opponent at NXT Takeover: Dallas that way, but there is something  better about the way Austin Aries or many other have made their debut.

According to a report from CageSideSeats.com, the reason Mickie James could appear during NXT’s latest tapings is because she was overseas with her husband and fellow wrestler Magnus. However, the video package was filmed and will air on NXT TV soon.

It’s been reported that WWE officials were trying to set up Asuka vs. Trish Stratus for Toronto because that was the latter’s hometown. As amazing and surreal as that would have been, James is a great replacement who will be able to challenge Asuka in the ring.

On paper, this is a one match deal. However, it could potentially lead to more matches in NXT or even on the main roster against any number of opponents.
