There was rumor and some rumblings on WWE television that Chris Jericho would be entering the WWE Universal title picture heading into “Hell in a Cell.”

The expectation is that Kevin Owens and Y2J would have some kind of “split,” and Jericho would finish his current WWE run as a face. Unless the rumors were wrong, it doesn’t seem to be in the cards anymore and WWE has a specific reason why.

According to a report from CageSideSeats.com, the original plans were for Jericho to join the feud between Owens and Rollins to make it a triple threat match. However, those plans have been dropped so Owens vs. Rollins can be a “Hell in a Cell” match.

It’s possible that Jericho could get involved in one way or another. The idea for Y2J to become the special guest referee has been tossed around, apparently. WWE officials are likely figuring that out as we speak because he only has so much time left with WWE.

It was rumored recently that Jericho could be leaving WWE after the “Hell in a Cell” PPV, so WWE officials are likely to do something big with him if he needs to be written off WWE programming.
